Honor Code Roles and Responsibilities

We are a community made from many different people in different positions. Whoever we are, wherever we come from, and wherever we contribute, we are responsible for creating a culture of righteousness and learning. We want everyone to be able to encourage each other to live by the standards that will help us expand our reach and quicken our pace.

Students

Education

Students have a responsibility to not only maintain the standards of the Church and College but to also “encourage others in their commitment to observe these standards ‘at all times and…in all places.’” (Mosiah 18:9; CES Application, Part 3A) One essential way of teaching is to set the proper example by demonstrating personal commitment through actions and conduct. In addition, students many not influence or seek to influence others to engage in behavior inconsistent with the Honor Code.

Reinforcement

Reinforcement would begin with reminding and encouraging fellow students who are not in compliance with the Honor Code about their commitment to live by the standards. Students who fail to respond to an educational approach are referred to the Honor Code Office.

Faculty

Education

Faculty, both full and part-time, should also set the proper example by demonstrating personal commitment to the Honor Code through their own actions and conduct. Faculty should live the college's mission by striving to become "capable and trusted disciples of Jesus Christ". Faculty should address the Honor Code at the beginning of each semester by including an Honor Code section in their syllabi and discussing the Honor Code during the first class period.

Reinforcement

Reinforcement would begin with reminding and encouraging students who are not in compliance with the Honor Code about their commitment to live by the standards. At their discretion, faculty may apply academic consequences if the student is not responsive to faculty requests of compliance to the Honor Code. It is expected that only students in compliance with the dress and grooming standards will be permitted in class. Students who fail to respond to an educational approach, are argumentative, or request more information concerning the Honor Code, are referred to the Honor Code Office.

Staff and Services

Education

Staff members should also set the proper example by demonstrating personal commitment to the Honor Code through their own actions, conduct, and appearance. Dress and grooming signs should continue to be posted on the counters and doors of all offices where students are served (i.e. registration, bookstore, etc.). New, uniform, professional-looking signs will be created by the Honor Code Office and distributed to these areas. Staff members should encourage students who are not in compliance with the Honor Code to live by the standards and honor their commitment.

Reinforcement

In a kind, informative manner, services would be refused by student-service offices. Pamphlets and other related materials would be available for staff members to distribute. Students who fail to respond to an educational approach, are argumentative, or request more information concerning the Honor Code, are referred to the Honor Code Office.

Honor Code Office

Education

The Honor Code Office, in cooperation with the Student Honor Association, is responsible for the creation and implementation of all college-wide educational and marketing efforts related to the Honor Code. Once a student is referred to the Honor Code Office, further education and counseling occurs. Certain students, depending upon the nature and the severity of the infraction, are allowed to correct their behavior without sanctions being imposed.

Reinforcement

Students who fail to respond to an educational approach are referred to the Honor Code Office and may receive sanctions. The purposes of the sanctions are to (1) protect the individual, (2) protect other students and college employees, and (3) protect the good name of the College and the Church. Refer to the Administrative Review Process section for specific sanctions.
