An Interior Design Degree Can Help Accelerate Your Career

An on-hands degree like Interior Design puts the student first and helps students discover their potential. For Julie Dumas, an alumnus of LDS Business College, the Interior Design program equipped her with the skills she needed to get a job and put her in a place to achieve her professional goals.

“There are a few things that I know about myself,” Julie said. “I’m a creative. I love working with my hands. I love giving people an experience. All of those things led me to study Interior Design. They’ve also led me to try other things in my career.”

Shortly after graduation from LDS Business College, Julie moved to New York to pursue her design dreams.

“I’m doing freelance work now – mostly styling,” Julie said. “I learned at LDS Business College that you can do everything in life with the Spirit present. You can tie the Gospel to everything. As I’ve gone through my career, I’ve seen how important that is. Good, wholesome working environments are so important to my happiness.”

Because LDS Business College is operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it’s a unit of the Church Educational System. Meaning, Julie was provided with a spiritually nourishing environment to complement her intellectually stimulating education.

“I loved my experience here at LDS Business College,” Julie said. “Most of the good friends that I’ve kept in touch with through the years I met at LDSBC. It’s such a close-knit community.”

While at LDS Business College, Julie also developed close relationships with teachers that she considers mentors and still communicates with on a regular basis.

“I’ve called them a few times to ask questions about job interviews or other similar situations,” Julie said. “The networking at the school is just really great.”

Julie decided from the beginning that she would make the most of her time at LDS Business College.

“I really dove head-first into my life there,” Julie said. “I participated in everything that the school offered. I loved every second of my program. I loved that we weren’t taking tests, but that we were doing projects. It was my kind of learning, as a creative.”
