GENERAL

Q:        How many students attend LDS Business College?
A:        Currently, about 1,700.  Those 1,700 students come from almost all states and from more than 60 foreign         countries.
 

ADMISSIONS

Q:        What is the College’s application deadline?
A:        Students must apply no later than 10 days before the beginning of each semester or term.  We recommend that you apply early in order to have a good selection of classes when you register. 
            International students do have a deadline to allow time for visa processing.  The international deadlines are March 31 for Summer Session, July 31 for Fall Semester, and December 1 for Winter Semester.
 
Q:        What is the minimum GPA I need to be accepted?
A:        LDS Business College is an open admissions institution.  If you have graduated from high school, and commit to live the College’ honor code and keep the required dress and grooming standard (see Part 3 of the application), you will likely be admitted.
 
Q:        Do I need a TOEFL test?
A:        Students whose native language is not English are required to provide a test score to show English proficiency.  They can use the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or Michigan Test.
 
Q:        How do I apply for admission?
A:        It’s simple.  You can apply on line at www.besmart.com.  Complete the application form there, send in a copy of your high school (and college if applicable) transcripts, and pay the $35 application fee.
 
Q:        Do you have to be LDS to attend?
A:        We welcome students of all faiths, but all students must commit to keep the College’s code of honor, and to register for an Institute of Religion class each semester.
 

TUITION & INSURANCE

Q:        How much is tuition?
A:        Tuition for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is $1,400 per semester; others attending full time pay $2,800 per semester.  For part-time students (1-11 credit hours) the rate is $117 or $234 per hour.
 
Q:        When is tuition due?
A:        Tuition is due on the first day of the semester or session, but a two-week grace period is offered before any penalties are assessed.
 
Q:            What is the College's insurance requirement?
A:            LDS Business College requires all continuing students enrolled at least 3/4 time to have adequate medical coverage for the duration of their enrollment at the College. To satisfy this requirement, students must enroll in either the LDS Business College Student Health Plan or a group medical plan provided by their employer or their spouse's or parent's employer.  
 
Q:            What information do I need to provide in order to waive the College's health insurance?
A:            The name of your insurance company and your policy/contract number.
 
Q:            How often do I have to waive the College's insurance if I have my own coverage?
A:            You must submit a waiver your first semester at LDS Business College and each academic year  thereafter (Fall Semester). This can be done online through your student account or at the Cashier's Office.
 
Q:            If I want to be covered by the Student Health Plan, how often do I have to enroll?
A:            You must enroll yourself at the beginning of each semester. This can be done online through your student account or at the Cashier's Office.
 
Q:            When are insurance enrollments/waivers due?
A:            Student insurance waivers and enrollments are due by the tuition due date.
 
Q:            When are insurance premiums due?
A:            Insurance premiums are due by the tuition due date.
 

TRANSFER STUDENTS

Q:        Will my credits transfer?
A:        Yes.  The College is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, the same institution that accredits the state colleges and universities in Utah as well as BYU and Westminster.  This means credits earned here are recognized.  If you plan to transfer, we recommend you enroll in one of our transfer programs to be sure your classes meet specific program requirements at another institution.
 

REGISTRATION

Q:        When do classes start?
A:        We offer a Summer Session beginning in June,  Fall Semester begins in September, and Winter Semester starts in January.  Click here for exact dates.
 
Q:        Do you offer online classes?
A:        At LDS Business College we focus on small classes to give you maximum interaction with your instructor.  We think the working world, real life exposure they give is an important part of your education.  There are some classes available on line, but we believe our students are best served by interacting with other students and faculty as part of the learning process.
 

SCHOLARSHIPS/FINANCIAL AID

Q:        Do you offer scholarships?
A:        You can easily apply for freshmen scholarships as part of your application process (check the box on Part 2).  The College also offers a number of scholarships for continuing students, and there's even a scholarship for students who graduate from the College to be used at the university of their choice.  Click here to see scholarship categories.
 
Q:        Does the College offer financial aid?
A:        Students may apply for federal financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Grants and loans are available.  Click here for more information.
 

ACTIVITIES

Q:        Do you  have clubs and organizations?
A:        Yes.  There are several.  The student life web site has more information.  If you don’t see something you are particularly interested in, you are welcome to start a club of your own.
 
Q:        Are there opportunities for service?
A:        Yes.  Service is a big part of our campus.  There are numerous ways to give of yourself.  Our students have done everything from planting flowers at Temple Square to working with the Salt Lake City Family Shelter and tutoring at a local elementary school.
 
Q:        Can I run for office?
A:        Elections are held every February for offices for the following academic year.  If you choose not to run for office, you can still be involved on a committee.
